Green Smoothie Recipes

stuffedSo I didn’t try all the smoothie recipes from my last blog because I discovered it was really easy to experiment on my own. Using a handful of spinach, about a ½ cup of kale and ½ cup of water as my base, I blended these ingredients first, then I added some fresh pineapple and frozen strawberries. I didn’t really measure anything, I just tossed in a few strawberries and pineapple. This mix was okay, but I found adding half a banana really improved the taste. Next I tried the same base ingredients, but I used blackberries and banana. I love blackberries, but not in this combination. My next attempt I used the same base, added a ¼… Read More

I have been talking about being sedentary and the health risks associated with it. I’ve been doing better in getting more active during the work day, but I still find at crunch time that I’m sitting longer than I should. My new office is still a few weeks out, so it will be some time before I know how much the standing desk helps. But I will report back.smoothie I have also found that just about any exercise works, including keeping weights around just to shake up my routine. And I have to say, I’ve shaved off a few pounds with this new plan, so an added benefit.

meals Red moon I love fall. The crisp air in the morning, the cool afternoons to exercise without getting heat stroke, but most of all I love cooking again. It’s time for all those lovely fall meals. I’m ready for a change of pace, so this week is fall meals week.

meals Chili and corn bread I kicked off my fall menu lineup with a pot of chili—the spicier the better for me. My recipe for chili is a mix of several recipes and I kind of toss everything into the pot.
  • ½ chopped onion
  • 3 cloves of garlic crushed
  • ½ chopped red or orange bell pepper
  • Turkey sausage 16 ounce package
  • 2… Read More

Healthy eating can definitely be a challenge, especially after I've worked all day and have nothing planned for dinner. But a recent blog post by Diane Carbonell, author of 150 Pounds Gone Forever reminded me that a nutritious meal doesn't have to be complicated or time-consuming. It can even be faster than preparing a TV dinner.

Nutritious and Filling

Chicken and salad or shrimp and salad is standard fare in the in the summer when it’s hot and heating the kitchen isn’t appealing. It's a fast, easy meal that is nutritious nutritious and filling. But now that fall is in the air, I want something heartier—stews, soups, casseroles. These meals are my friend because I don’t just make a single… Read More

Quick and easy recipes are a snap with summer fruits and vegetables. I love a colorful meal. In fact, it almost seems sad to eat it, but that sure doesn't stop me! I love the large selection of summertime fruits and vegetables. Browsing at the farmers markets, or going straight to my garden for my ingredients, is just plain fun.

Recipes

Spinach salad is a daily favorite for me. I love  a mix of sweet fruit, crunchy nuts and chewy Craisins. This is my Spinach Salad recipe: recipe Spinach Salad

Motivation, meals and movement.

When I have these three components in my life maintaining my weight is a snap, but motivation is a continual challenge for me. When I have motivation nothing stops me. I'm invincible, I'm Wonder Woman, I'm a mover and shaker. I’m unstoppable. When I'm unmotivated procrastination takes control. Tomorrow I will eat better. Tomorrow I will get my butt off the couch and move. Tomorrow I will start yet another diet. Motivation Image courtesy of Apolonia at FreeDigitalPhotos.net  What I need is middle ground between hopped-up-on-caffeine enthusiasm and stuck-in-the-doldrums procrastination. One of the best things I’ve found that keeps me on track is having good healthy snacks and nutritious meals available.… Read More
